Attempting the Desert

Attempting the desert at a glance
can be hypnotic, potentially disastrous.
The land’s too big. Starts to swallow us up.
The dimensions are monstrous.

Eventually it stops being there.
No world, no land, no nothing but air.
It can come down to this in the end.
The only place you exist is in your head.

How long, how long does the desert drink a drop of rain?
Eons, eons, they’ve always been one and the same
Come on, come on, this painting is really the frame
So long, so long, I’ll never stop waiting for you to sing this song to me, my legend key.

Burning maps out in the sun
Turning circles, trying not to run
This thirst will drive a man insane
Open up the sky pull down a cold hard rain

CHORUS

Instead pull the sky to your alkali chest
And then sew feathers to the thunderheads
Maybe then you can put it together
Assemble the desert
Piece by piece.
